    The United Nations & Music

    Every year on 24 October, the United Nations General Assembly is transformed into a concert hall, as music briefly takes centre stage and offers a moment of harmony beyond political tensions. In this unique form of diplomacy, where music becomes a universal language, which work should be chosen – and what message should it convey?

    The Couperin Family

    Discover one of the great musical dynasties of France, from Louis Couperin, organist and composer born in 1626, to François Couperin, known as “Couperin le Grand” (1668–1733), celebrated for his remarkable body of harpsichord music and his influential treatise, L’Art de toucher le clavecin.


    📅 22 January – Les Six

    Were Les Six truly a group, or simply an eclectic collection of composers brought together by Jean Cocteau, with Erik Satie as their inspirational figure? Five men and one woman whose music left a lasting mark on the vibrant cultural scene of 1920s Paris.


    📅 26 February – Nature & Music

    Nature has always been a wonderful source of inspiration for composers. From Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, explore the many ways in which music has captured, celebrated and reimagined the natural world.


    📅 26 March – Beethoven

    Beethoven died on the afternoon of 26 March 1827. Despite his famously difficult temperament, particularly in his later years, his funeral drew an immense crowd eager to pay tribute to an extraordinary musical figure.

    Both heir to the Classical tradition and a pioneer of a new era, Beethoven expanded and transformed the musical forms he inherited. Inspired by the liberal and democratic ideals of his time, he also helped music move beyond its aristocratic roots, paving the way for a new vision of the composer and his place in society.
